EMBLICA OFFICINALIS (AMLA/AMALAKI) Studies consistently show that a concentrated extract of this exotic berry can improve your HDL significantly. At the same time, reliable studies conclude that amla also lowers triglycerides as well as C-Reactive Protein or CRP. CRP is a marker of inflammation in the artery walls. Only wild, forest-grown fruit is used in its preparation, which has a much higher concentration of active nutrients than the lower-elevation farm-raised amla fruit substituted in other amla supplements. Antioxidant powerhouse: Amla also has incredible antioxidant properties that are very healthy for your heart and blood vessels. Amla curbs the oxidation of cholesterol in your arteries, a crucial benefit for a long and healthy life.

A research team has discovered that Amla extract taken regularly as a dietary supplement, can counteract the toxic effects of prolonged exposure to environmental heavy metals such as lead, aluminum and nickel. These metals are prevalent in the environment of industrialized countries. In the studies, the pro-oxidant or oxygen radical scavenger qualities of Amalaki suggest that it may also be effective in lowering the risk of cancers.

Additionally, Amla reduces cholesterol and cholesterol induced atherosclerosis (obstruction of the arteries), making it an useful herb for fighting obesity. One study showed that it prevents atheroma, or degeneration of the artery walls due to fat and scar tissue. It reduces or eliminates the risk of environmental pollutants, normalizes cholesterol levels, reduces unwanted fat and cures ulcers.

NATTOKINASE is a potent fibrinolytic enzyme derived from natto, a Japanese food made using fermented soy beans and good bacteria called Bacillus natto. It’s been used in Japanese culture for more than 1,000 years as a remedy for heart and vascular diseases.

Research in the 1980’s further verified its ability to clean out arteries and remove blood clots. It’s also known to lower blood pressure and reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL (good) cholesterol.

In a nutshell, nattokinase cleanses the blood of accumulated debris, making the blood less “sticky” promoting a normal blood viscosity level so that the body can function at an optimal level.

Research has also shown nattokinase to exhibit four times greater fibrinolytic activity than the body’s primary anti-clotting enzyme plasmin. Japanese researchers have shown that 100 grams of natto exhibits the same fibrinolytic activity as traditional clot-dissolving drugs.

HAWTHORNE LEAF is an excellent cardiotonic protects it in a variety of ways. It is especially effective in the beginning stages of heart disease, as well as speeding up the recovery time after a heart attack. It also strengthens weak heart muscle associated with age, relieves pressure and tightness of the chest, eases angina and myocarditis (inflammation of the heart), as well as mild cardiac arrhythmia. The bioflavonoids found in Hawthorne interact with key enzymes in the heart to increase the pumping force of the heart muscle, strengthen the heartbeat and eliminate arrhythmia. Clinical studies have suggested significant improvement in cardiac function, laboured breathing and palpitations for patients with ischemic or hypertensive heart diseases. Hawthorne Leaf's rich flavonoids dilate and open up the blood vessels (as a vasodilator), allowing oxygen-rich blood to get to the heart and reduce the risk of a heart attack. Hawthorne reduces cholesterol and regulates blood pressure (both high and low). It also appears to increase the liver's conversion of LDLs (bad cholesterol) into HDLs (good cholesterol) that do not clog arteries, which helps to stop plaque formation. This is also beneficial in the treatment of arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart attack and strokes.

Research shows that hawthorn may lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. In an eight-week Australian study, patients with abnormal amounts of lipids in the blood were treated with hawthorn berry extract. The study showed that hawthorn simultaneously increased serum levels of HDL cholesterol and decreased LDL cholesterol. By doing so, hawthorn may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

TERMINALIA ARJUNA The bark of Arjuna tree is researched as an anti-ischemic and cardioprotective agent useful in hypertension and ischemic heart disease. It helps maintain a healthy heart and reduces the effects of stress and nervousness. Arjuna promotes effective cardiac functioning and regulates blood pressure. Arjuna promotes endothelial cell function—these are the cells that line and protect your blood vessels. It improves the blood circulation to the heart and also tones the heart. It also has a relaxing effect on blood vessels.  For people who are concerned with blood pressure, arjuna may help keep it in the healthy range.  Arjuna supports heart function during exertion and exercise—when you need it most and fights damage caused by free radicals. Arjuna can help keep blood flowing smooth and steady to and from the heart. Arjuna naturally contains CoQ10—a chemical your body needs to provide energy to your entire body. Your heart requires the most energy…and arjuna helps make sure you’re getting it.

8 Medicinal Uses of Arjuna
Arjuna shows improvement in lipid profile; there will be a significant decrease in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.
Arjuna can also normalize high blood pressure.
COQ10 in Arjuna supports the heart's energy output, and enhances overall energy levels, stamina, immunity, and boosts antioxidant levels.
Arjuna herb helps to reduce the effects of stress and nervousness on the heart.
Arjuna can successfully decrease the persistence of angina attacks. Angina attack is a pain or tightness experiencing in the chest causing due to reduced blood flow to the heart.
Arjuna shows a significant improvement in patients with congestive heart failure; the patient may find improvement in dyspnea, fatigue, edema and walking tolerance.
Arjuna can help shed excess body weight.
Arjuna has compounds that protect against DNA damage from toxins.

CURCUMIN - exhibits powerful anti-coagulant properties due to its ability to inhibit the formation of fibrinogen, a plasma protein that causes blood clotting. Elevated fibrinogen blood levels have been identified in a number of studies to be a major risk factor for coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease (strokes). Turmeric can reduce fibrinogen levels, thereby inhibiting blood clotting. In one study by scientists in Spain, researchers selected eight subjects with elevated fibrinogen levels and treated them with Curcuma longa (turmeric). After only 15 days, previously elevated levels of fibrinogen plummeted in all eight subjects. The Health Benefits of Curcumin

MAGNESIUM is one of the most common elemental minerals in the human body yet experts believe that more than 90% of adults are deficient, placing them at extreme risk of sudden death from a heart attack and developing diabetes. Sudden cardiac death is a leading cause of heart-related deaths among those 40 and older.Magnesium is necessary to relax blood vessels and arteries while maintaining normal blood pressure. Further research has demonstrated the effect of magnesium on dangerous plaque formation. Low levels of magnesium are associated with the development of foamy plaque on the inner lining of the coronary arteries as well as thickening of the artery walls. High levels of magnesium were shown to decrease arterial wall thickness by 42%.

TRIBULUS TERRESTRIS   It is shown that saponin of Tribulus terrestris has the action of dilating coronary artery and improving coronary circulation, and thus has better effects on improving ECG of myocardial ischemia. If taken for a long time, it has no adverse reaction on blood system and hepatic and renal functions. Neither does it have side effects. It is one of the ideal medicines to treat angina pectoris.

EDTA - Beneficial Uses of Oral EDTA in Cardiovascular Disease (For more info on EDTA, click here)

A study of the effects of oral EDTA on patients with atherosclerosis and/or hypertension was conducted on 10 patients. Four of these patients had hypertension, four had angina pectoris, one had peripheral vascular disease (intermittent claudication), and one was recovering from a heart attack. All were treated with 1 gm of oral EDTA daily for 3 months. Seven of the ten patients experienced significant reductions in their cholesterol levels, and blood pressure was reduced in all ten. The four patients with angina pectoris also all reported improvement. In another series of 20 patients who suffered from hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, angina or peripheral vascular disease, one gram of EDTA was administered orally every day for 3 months. During that short time, elevated cholesterol levels in nine of the patients dropped to within the normal range. No adverse results were experienced by any of the patients. Angina attacks were reduced in frequency and severity in five individuals. One person who previously had suffered a heart attack and experienced several angina attacks daily thereafter, obtained complete relief.
