ACETYL-L-CARNITINE  (In Neuro-Fast Capsules)

EFFECT OF L-ACETYL CARNITINE ON ACUTE ISCHAEMIC STROKE RECOVERY

A pilot clinical trial of L-acetyl carnitine was conducted from December 2011 to December 2012. Twenty patients with verified diagnosis of acute ischaemic stoke in the territory of the middle cerebral artery, who could receive drug treatment within 48 hours of stroke onset, were included. The patients with >4 point of National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) were randomly allocated to receive either 1.5g L-acetyl carnitine or placebo. For follow-up, NIHSS on day 2,7,14,30,60 and Rankin scale at day 60 were applied. No significant adverse effects were seen. The NIHS score was much higher in the L-acetyl carnitine treated group at 3 months of follow-up and they had a faster stroke recovery. Results of this pilot trial are promising and defines the role of L-acetyl carnitine as a neuroprotective drug.

 

ALPHA LIPOIC ACID (In Neuro-Fast Capsules)

Alpha-lipoic acid works together with other antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E. It is important for growth, helps prevent cell damage, and helps the body rid itself of harmful substances. Because alpha-lipoic acid can pass easily into the brain, it has protective effects on brain and nerve tissue, and shows promise as a treatment for stroke and other brain disorders involving free radical damage. Patients treated with alpha-lipoic acid suffered less brain damage and had a four times greater survival rate after a stroke than the patients who did not receive this supplement.

 

ARJUNA BARK (In Neuro-Fast Capsules)

Arjuna extracts produce even more remarkable improvements in chronic heart failure patients. One study evaluated arjuna at a dose of 500 mg every 8 hours in patients with severe, Class IV heart failure had improvement in all clinical signs of heart failure, and had better objective outcomes on echocardiograms, including reductions in heart volume and pressures, and increases in the amount and percent of blood pumped with each beat. In that study, 100% of arjuna-supplemented patients improved from Class IV (basically bedridden) to Class III (moderate) heart failure, an enormous change. Perhaps even more compelling is the finding that, by the study’s 4th month, 75% of the arjuna-supplemented patients had moved down to Class II (from Class III). No patients in the placebo group experienced such remarkable progress. In another trial, Class III patients on the same dose of arjuna achieved similar echocardiogram results. In this study, all arjuna-supplemented patients improved all the way to Class I heart failure, which is defined as having no symptoms of heart failure at all.

None of these studies detected meaningful side effects from the use of arjuna as an add-on therapy.

 

 

GRAPESEED EXTRACT (In Neuro-Fast Capsules)

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of long-lasting disability in humans and oxidative stress an important underlying cause. Owing to its antioxidant potential, the trial showed that grape seed extract efficiently protected the brain against ischemic stroke.

 

BRAHMI (In Cerebro-Fast Capsules)

Brahmi has been seen to help restore normal brain function after a brain stroke. The lack of blood supply to the brain during a stroke can starve nerve cells of oxygen and lead to their death, while the return of blood supply (reperfusion) can damage tissues and increase free radical generation. Brain stroke can also lead to short-term memory loss and loss of motor balance.

Brahmi increases blood flow to the brain without increasing blood pressure, reduces the size of the area affected by the stroke, and improves memory and muscle coordination. It also helps fight oxidative damage following reperfusion. Brahmi helps relax the heart muscles, aorta, bronchial smooth muscles, and pulmonary arteries, and improves blood flow by increasing nitrate oxide levels but without increasing blood pressure. A smooth blood flow can help prevent cardiac events. On top of that, studies find that regular consumption of Brahmi can protect the heart from damage and hasten recovery.

 

QUERCETIN (In Cerebro-Fast Capsules)

Trial EAS-0334 Clinical aspects of using Quercetin in post-stroke patients.

In all patients after the treatment there were improvements in short- and long-term memory. In patients with left sided localization of ischemic lesion there were more active positive reorganization of bioelectrical brain activity in range of slow rhythms (theta, delta). Increase of linear systolic blood-flow velocity was also noted. The conclusion was that Quercetin improved psyco-emotional state and mental functions, positive reorganization of bioelectrical brain activity, cerebral hemodynamics and harmonized sympathetic and para-sympathetic links of the autonomic nervous system.

 

CURCUMIN (In Cerebro-Fast and Neuro-Fast Capsules)

Curcumin has been found to reduce levels on proinflammatory cytokines. As inflammatory mediators that remain for a prolonged period are known to contribute to brain injury, intake of curcumin can prove to be beneficial in treating inflammation of the nerve cells caused by stroke and play an important role in repairing and regenerating brain cells affected by stroke and other neurodegenerative diseases. Curcumin has also been found to be effective and safe in treating depression and cognitive impairment, both of which play an important role in treating patients affected by strokes.

 

The above are only a short summary of the effects of the ingredients in both products. There are many more clinical trials that support what is stated above. We will continually update this page when new clinical data is found.
