Magnolol/Honokiol (Magnolia officinalis is a species of Magnolia native to the mountains and valleys of China at altitudes of 300–1500 m.)

Pure honokiol is an active compound extracted from the bark of Magnolia officinalis. Numerous published studies and substantial clinical application demonstrate that honokiol exhibits a broad spectrum of therapeutic actions.

Few individual ingredients have been reported to possess such extensive biological activity; pure honokiol distinguishes itself in this respect. Evidence suggests it may contribute to the management and prevention of various health conditions, affecting multiple pathways through its potent bioactivity.

Anti-cancer: Research indicates that honokiol interacts with essential cell signaling and genetic pathways, inhibiting cancer cell proliferation, inducing apoptosis, and disrupting metastasis. It may also enhance the efficacy of conventional cancer therapies, including chemotherapy and radiation, and mitigate multi-drug resistance.

Neurological support: Honokiol’s capacity to cross both the blood-brain barrier and the blood-cerebral-spinal fluid barrier allows for notable protection and support of neurological health. Studies demonstrate its potential to foster healthy nerve cell growth, reduce neuroinflammation, and address amyloid plaque accumulation associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Additional findings suggest benefits in conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.

Relaxation and mood modulation: Pure honokiol has been shown to increase GABA activity, a neurotransmitter linked to relaxation and calmness, thereby aiding in stress relief, anxiety management, and improvement of sleep quality.

Antioxidant properties: As an antioxidant, honokiol is markedly more effective than Vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals and reducing oxidative stress.

Mitochondrial function: Mitochondria are critical for energy production and cellular health. Honokiol supports mitochondrial function by promoting the activity of SIRT1, an essential protein for mitochondrial integrity.

Antimicrobial effects: Pure honokiol demonstrates activity against various pathogenic microbes—including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites—providing important support in managing diverse infections.

Burdock Root

Early research has pointed to burdock root's antitumor activity and potential ability to decrease the risk of certain cancers. According to one study from 2016, "burdock has been utilized in treatment of breast tumour, ovary, bladder, malignant melanoma, lymphoma and pancreatic cells." Burdock seeds also contain an active ingredient called arctigenin, which has the ability to remove the tumour cells with low nutrients. The root also contains tannin, an important chemical found in some plants being studied for its cancer preventive properties (like stimulating white blood cells that fight infection and limiting cancer. propagation). The flavonoids and polyphenols in burdock root may help slow tumour development as well as reduce pain experienced from some cancers, such as breast tumours. A laboratory study in 2011 found that the free radicals in burdock root helped stop some cancers from spreading.

Milk Thistle 80%Silymarin

Silymarin is a flavonoid complex that detoxifies the body and is a strong liver tonic. Silymarin strengthens the body's immune system which makes it effective in fighting cancer by stopping the growth of cancer cells. Research has found that Silymarin destroys prostate, breast, and cervical cancer cells and prohibits cancer cells from attacking other organs; Reduces the side effects of chemotherapy and blocks tumours from starting or continuing to grow. Amla Phyllanthus emblica

Amla is rich in antioxidants which help in restricting the growth of carcinogenic cells and is highly effective in preventing the growth of cancerous cells. It helps in keeping harmful free radicals at bay. Antioxidants in Amla can even counterattack the side effects of anti-cancer drugs. Amla increases the oxygen levels in the body and in turn this weakens the cancer cells which die in the presence of oxygen.

Gravi-C is a combination of selected herbs that work synergistically to relieve the symptoms and side-effects of cancer and HIV, to strengthen the immune system, increase oxygen levels in the blood and to create a feeling of well-being.

The immune system’s natural capacity to detect and destroy abnormal cells may prevent the development of many cancers. However, cancer cells are sometimes able to avoid detection and destruction by the immune system when the the immune system is under stress and not functioning properly.

The Immune System in Action

When the various parts of the immune system encounter a foreign invader they have identified as a threat, they leap instantly into action. The first line of defense, known as the innate system, includes our skin, tears, mucous membranes and the cilia in our respiratory tract that help protect our lungs. The innate immune system’s job is to immediately prevent dangerous disease-causing organisms, known as pathogens, from moving throughout our bodies. We cough, cry and develop runny noses as part of the innate immune response. The innate immune response is considered non-specific, meaning it will take on any invader that comes its way with the tools at its disposal.

The immune system’s second line of defense, the adaptive immune response, takes longer to rush to our aid, but its effects are also longer and are specific to the invader it has encountered. And, like an elephant, the adaptive immune system never forgets; once it has faced a foreign foe once, it stores the memory of their battle forever and is always ready to protect us in the same ways again. Our bodies develop swelling or inflammation, redness, pain and pus as part of the immune response.

Adaptive Immunity: T Cells, B Cells & Antibodies

Adaptive (acquired) immunity provides antigen-specific response. T cells are a type of leukocyte — or white blood cell — that is an essential part of the immune response, a defender against foreign substances in the body. Plasma B cells secrete antibodies, or immunoglobulins to fight enemy invaders such as illnesses and infections — the most common is Immunoglobulin G (IgG). When the immune system produces IgG in response to a specific threat, it’s fighting on two fronts: in the present, and in building immunity for the future.

Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties of turmeric and curcumin are undergoing intense research which show that curcumin slows the development and growth of a number of types of cancer cells. In Japan researchers defined curcumin as a broad-spectrum anti-cancer agent. Its induction of "detoxifying enzymes," the researchers say, indicate its "potential value ... as a protective agent against chemical carcinogenesis and other forms of electrophilic toxicity. The significance of these results can be implicated in relation to cancer chemopreventive effects of curcumin against the induction of tumors in various target organs" (Iqbal M, et al. Pharmacol Toxicol. 2003 Jan;92(1):33-8).

Scientists at M. D. Anderson, Texas, wrote in January 2003: "Extensive research over the last 50 years has indicated [curcumin] can both prevent and treat cancer. The anticancer potential of curcumin stems from its ability to suppress proliferation of a wide variety of tumor cells. In their latest of a series of reports the M. D. Anderson say: "Curcumin can suppress tumor initiation, promotion and metastasis. Some researchers say curcumin inhibits angiogenesis, i.e. formation of new blood vessels, which tumors use to nourish themselves as they spread (Mol Med 1998 Jun;4(6):376-83).

Sutherlandia Frutescans

Sutherlandia frutescens is a shrub native to South Africa and the coast of West Africa. This plant and its related species have been used in traditional medicine to treat diabetes, chicken pox, external wounds, and cancer. Although Sutherlandia is not generally consumed as a dietary supplement in the West, some use the raw herb as an adaptogen.

Constituents in Sutherlandia have antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer properties

In vitro studies suggest Sutherlandia has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The constituent pinitol demonstrated antidiabetic effects by increasing availability of glucose for cell metabolism. Sutherlandia upregulated VAMP3, a gene which plays a role in vesicle transport, and also regulated 26 other genes that code for vesicle transporters, receptors, signaling molecules, transcription factors, and metabolic enzymes. GABA found in the dry leaves of this herb can slow down nerve cell activity.

An ethanolic extract of Sutherlandia inhibited growth of MCF-7 breast adenocarcinoma cells by inducing apoptosis. Sutherlandia also downregulated metalloproteinases that control cell migration, proliferation, and apoptosis, and regulate tumor expansion, angiogenesis, and dissemination.
